Amid the Senate’s proposal for a P100 wage hike for all employees working in the private sector, the House of Representatives is considering a bill seeking a P350 increase.
According to House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe on Sunday, the employees are facing hard times, and they are looking for substantial solutions to ease their financial challenges, speaking on their behalf as their representatives.
He added that House Speaker Martin Romualdez ordered the House leadership to look for alternatives to improve the laborers’ take-home pay, which included the legislated wage increase or the revisions in the regional wage board mechanism.
Dalipe mentioned that the House Committee on Labor and Employment will look into several pending measures on pay hikes, set for Wednesday, among which is a draft law by Deputy Speaker and Trade Union Congress of the Philippines Party-list Rep. Raymond Democrito Mendoza, which calls for a P150 wage adjustment across the board.
He pointed out the urgency of the discussions, which highlighted the House’s dedication to timely and impactful legislative action, saying that the members of the chamber were suggesting a legislated wage hike that ranges from P150 to P350 per day.
Meanwhile, the House majority leader said that it would more appropriately address the crucial decline in private sector employees’ real wages and their diminishing purchasing power.
