The House Committee on Metro Manila Development will convene on July 31 to assess the impact of flooding in various areas of Metro Manila caused by Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon.
Chairman of the House Committee on Metro Manila Development (CMMD) and Manila 2nd District Representative Rolando Valeriano reported on Wednesday that the committee will be discussing the impact of the ongoing flood in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Valeriano mentioned that he will also coordinate with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to aid in the assessment of the flooding and address the issues, despite the existence of flood control projects being implemented by the government and its local units.
In the CMMD meeting next week, various officials from local government units (LGUs), MMDA, PAGASA, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), and waste management contractors hired by the LGUs will be invited.
The issue of reclamation in Pasay City, which is considered a cause of flooding along Diokno Boulevard and has even affected the Senate parking lot, is also expected to be discussed in the said meeting.
Earlier, the Metro Manila Council placed the NCR under a state of calamity following the heavy rainfall and flooding still attributed to the typhoon and habagat.
