A measure seeking to institutionalize the government's transition to e-governance is one step closer to being passed into law after hurdling the House Committee on Appropriations.
The goal of the measure is to increase the use of information and communication technology in the transformation of government processes, operations, and service delivery.
All executive, legislative, and judicial offices will be covered, as well as local government units, state universities and colleges, government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs), and other units that provide business and non-business related transactions.
It also intends to establish the Philippine Infostructure Management Corporation (PIMC), which will focus on providing government services through interoperability and resource maximization.
Following committee approval, the measure will now be sent to the plenary for further deliberation and approval.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated in October that the country's system should be digitalized in order to compete with other countries, with digital infrastructure improvement being one of the top priorities.
