Reelected Senator Risa Hontiveros on Monday took her oath of office before outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo in Quezon City.
Hontiveros was accompanied by her daughters Issa, Ianna Baraquel, and Sinta Baraquel during her oath-taking ceremony held at the Quezon City Reception House in New Manila, Quezon City.
The senator, who ranked 11th in the recent elections, was the lone opposition left in the upper chamber.
"Una sa lahat, maraming, maraming salamat sa inyo. It is with great privilege and deepest gratitude that I pledge, once more, to serve the interests and welfare of the Filipino people," Hontiveros said.
In the same event, Robredo gave Hontiveros a tight hug as she declared the latter as the next leader of the opposition.
"Ikaw na iyong lider namin," Robredo said in her speech after administering Hontiveros’ oath of office.
"Kaya please know na nasa likod mo lang kami. Nasa likod mo lang kami, tutulong kung kailan mo kami kailangan."
