Opposition senators Risa Hontiveros and Francis Pangilinan revealed on Tuesday that their offices also received notifications of delivery orders under their names after Vice President Leni Robredo reported a similar case.
Hontiveros posted on her social media that a delivery was made for Rico's Lechon under her name that is worth P18,300.
In the note, the hashtags #WeLoveDuterte and #ILoveDrilon were written.
"May bagong modus ang mga gustong manira sa atin," Hontiveros said on a Facebook post. "Magpapanggap na ako at mag-oorder ng nakapangalan sa akin at sa address ng opisina ko."
(There is a new modus for those who want to smear us. They would pretend to be me and make orders under my name and address of my office.)
According to her, such scams only endanger the livelihoods of delivery riders and other businesses.
"Kawawa ang mga negosyante, mga empleyado, at mga delivery riders na inaagrabyado," she said, with a call asking to protect local businesses.
(Businessmen, employees, and delivery riders lose in this situation.)
Meanwhile, Senator and vice-presidential aspirant Francis Pangilinan also posted about the same incident, where several orders of meat, cheese, and wine worth P95,000 were made under his name.
The orders were made under cash on delivery, according to the screenshots posted on Pangilinan's Facebook page, but the senator said they were able to cancel the orders before they left.
"Mayroong natanggap ang aming opisina sa Senado na mensahe na mag-d-deliver daw ng frozen meat at wine na nagkakahalagang P95,000. Fake po 'yung order. Buti na lang hindi pa na-deliver," he said on Facebook.
(Our office in the Senate received a message that there is going to be a delivery of frozen meat and wine worth P95,000. The order is fake and luckily was not yet delivered.)
He also appealed to those behind the fake order to stop such actions because it causes inconvenience to riders and employees behind e-commerce websites.
"Mahirap na nga po ang buhay ngayon, dinadagdagan pa sila ng gawaing nakakasagabal lang sa kanilang productivity. 'Wag po natin sila pahirapan," he said.
(Life is already difficult these days, let’s not add more that will prevent them from being productive. Let’s not make it more difficult.)
The senator thanked the management of the e-commerce website for helping them deal with the bogus buyer, before urging the public to be more vigilant against scammers.
