Senator Risa Hontiveros on Monday, Dec. 11 filed a resolution urging the Senate committee to conduct a legislative inquiry into the "reported cases of human trafficking, rape, sexual abuse, and violence, and child abuse allegedly" perpetuated by the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) under the leadership of Apollo Quiboloy.
Under Senate Resolution No. (SRN) 884, Hontiveros said "it is imperative" that the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality probe Quiboloy, considering the alleged crimes he committed and have been doing up until the present time.
She pointed out that the KOJC leader remains free to operate KOJC despite the Federal Grand Jury in California indicted him for "conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion" in 2021.
"An investigation of legislation will also allow us to determine whether our updated human trafficking laws are able to cover large-scale and systemic acts of trafficking done under the cover of a religious organization," she added.
The Senator then cited information from sources that Quiboloy brainwashes, manipulates, and threatens KOJC full-time members of eternal damnation to obey him.
Informants, according to Hontiveros, also disclosed that pastorals have been divided into two groups — "inner circle" and "inner of the innermost circle".
"[T]he latter [inner of the innermost circle] being made to perform acts of a sexual nature and the former category being made to perform other personal tasks such as washing his clothes, bathing him, cleaning his bedroom, and massaging him," she explained.
The Senator said many minor pastorals were coerced by Quiboloy to beg in the streets and solicit money from strangers. But a corresponding punishment awaits those who are not able to meet the required quota of collected funds.
It can be recalled that in December last year, the United States Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions against the KOJC church leader over "serious human rights abuse" in connection to his physical and sexual abuse allegations.
Six months later, in June 2023, the social media platform YouTube terminated Quiboloy's YouTube due to a violation of its community guidelines.
