Senator Risa Hontiveros considers filing the same resolution in the Senate which calls for the cooperation of Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration with the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) probe into the war on drugs.

In a televised interview, Hontiveros mentioned that she is taking it seriously to consider filing the counterpart resolution of the ones that have been filed by several House lawmakers regarding the investigation.

The senator welcomed the resolution, hoping that it will create a more conducive environment so that the Philippines can get back its membership in the ICC.

Hontiveros said that there is no belittling or degrading at all since there is nothing unconstitutional about being a member of the community of nations, also emphasizing the killings covered by the ICC investigation, which happened years before former President Rodrigo Duterte withdrew the country’s membership that took effect in 2019.

She believes that it is more shameful to not accept help from the international community, particularly in the face of tens of thousands of extrajudicial killing victims.

On Friday, Marcos reiterated that the ICC has no jurisdiction over the Philippines; however, the government is still thinking that the country should go back to the international court.
