Over 500 residents of the Municipal town of General Luna in Quezon Province joined the annual “Parada ng Penitensya” or "Procession of Penitence" on Good Friday, April 7.

“Parada ng Penitensya” has been a Lenten tradition in General Luna as people believed that cutting their backs with blades until it bleeds and slapping this using a whip and roach is a way to atone for their sins, cure their illnesses, or grant their wishes.

Apart from the flagellation, residents also impersonated Centurion or the Romans, Jesus carrying the cross along with the two other criminals who were also sentenced to crucifixion.
