by Mary Antalan24 January 2024

Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) pastor Apollo Quiboloy is not a "son of God" who is exempted from the state's jurisdiction, Senator Risa Hontiveros said on Wednesday, January 24.

She made the statement after the self-proclaimed "appointed son of God" rejected the Senate invitation to the hearing regarding his alleged involvement in physical assaults and sexual abuses within the religious organization.

His absence pushed the Senate Committee on Women and Children, chaired by Hontiveros, to issue a motion for a subpoena, urging him to attend the next hearing.

In an exclusive interview during DZRH Damdaming Bayan, the Senator said Quiboloy's non-attendance in the Senate hearing only means he is disrespecting the Senate's institution.

Several victims had testified their experiences inside KOJC under Quiboloy's leadership during the Tuesday's hearing.

Aside from physical assault and sexual abuse, Hontiveros' committee had discovered the existence of so-called "pastorals", where victims were allegedly involved in performing personal tasks, including sexual acts, for Quiboloy.

'Yung mga ganoon," Hontiveros said.

Hontiveros said cases have been filed against the KOJC leader not only in the Philippines but also outside the country.

It can be recalled that in December last year, Hontiveros formally asked Justice Secretary Crispin 'Boying' Remulla to issue an immigration lookout bulletin order against Quiboloy. As of now, there is no confirmation yet if the DOJ has responded to the request.
