Great news, Potterheads!

HBO Max has officially confirmed that a TV series based on J.K. Rowling's bestselling book series "Harry Potter" is in the works.

This exciting news was announced during Warner Bros. Discovery's recent presentation to the press and investors, which also revealed that HBO Max and Discovery+ would be merging into a single service called Max.

While rumors of a "Harry Potter" TV series had been circulating for years, it wasn't until April 3 that reports of a potential show leaked to the public.

Now, details about the upcoming series have been confirmed, with each season set to focus on one book in the franchise. The show is being described as a decade-long series," and it will feature an entirely new cast from the films.

Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content, expressed his excitement about the project, saying, "We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way. Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years."

Max will produce the show in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, while J.K. Rowling herself will serve as executive producer alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts.

David Heyman, who produced all eight "Harry Potter" films, is also reportedly in talks to executive produce.

The "Harry Potter" franchise has been a global phenomenon since the first book, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," was published in 1997. Since then, the series has spawned eight hugely successful films that collectively grossed over $7.7 billion at the box office.

There are also theme park attractions, toys, and games, including the recently launched video game "Hogwarts Legacy." And let's not forget the hit Broadway show "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," which serves as a sequel to the book series.

Given the enduring popularity of "Harry Potter," it's no surprise that fans have been clamoring for a TV series. And with HBO Max's commitment to bringing a high-quality adaptation to the screen while staying true to the source material, this upcoming show is sure to be a hit with both die-hard Potterheads and new fans alike.
