The Philippine National Police (PNP) is working on the immediate return of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo to the country following her arrest at a hotel in Indonesia.
"Ngayong umaga po ay nakipag-meeting po ang Chief PNP. I was there, nawitness po natin ‘yung meeting po ng ating Chief PNP sa ating mga foreign counterparts. Para mapag-usapan po paano po ‘yung magiging paglipat po ng custody ni Alice Guo sa Philippine National Police," PNP Spokesperson PCol. Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing at Camp Crame on Wednesday.
Fajardo stated that PNP Chief PGen. Rommel Marbil personally saw Guo via video call with Indonesian authorities this morning. Fajardo also shared the most recent photographs of the dismissed mayor with the reporters.
Additionally, she said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2017 was instrumental in the arrest of Guo by Indonesian authorities.
Currently, PNP Chief Marbil and DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos are working with Indonesian counterparts to secure Guo's custody, who was dismissed due to her alleged involvement with an illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in her jurisdiction.
The PNP is exploring the option of traveling to Indonesia to personally retrieve Guo, who has an arrest order from the Senate due to her repeated absences from hearings she was summoned to, leading to her contempt citation.
They aim to have new developments by the end of the day, with the hope that Philippine authorities will be able to retrieve Guo in soonest possible time.
