Rain or Shine Elastopainters head coach Yeng Guiao believes that his team can still turn things around in the semifinals of the 2024 PBA Governors Cup even after falling to a 3-1 hole.
The Elastopainters near elimination after losing to the TNT Tropang Giga, 81-79, on Wednesday, October 16, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.
While disappointed with the result of Game Four, Guiao sees the defeat in a 'positive perspective' since the Tropang Giga only won by a single basket.
The 65-year old coach said that the Rain or Shine had a 'really good chance' to win the match, and equalize the best-of-seven series.
"Breaks lang talaga, breaks sa endgame. Marami rin na-miss na calls na sa tingin namin ay pwedeng mag-swing ng momentum to our side but we did not get those calls," Guiao told reporters after the game.
"Yes, we are down 3-1, but it could have easily been an equal series," he added.
Guiao assured that the Elastopainters will return to the court on Game Five with more lessons learned from their previous defeat.
"Tingin namin ay pwede pa namin i-improve yung approach namin in terms of making adjustments," Guiao said.
The seven-time PBA champion coach also mentioned that TNT import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson has been playing 46 minutes with high intensity per game.
Guiao expects that the reigning Best Import of the PBA Governors Cup will tire himself out once the series reach Game Six and Game Seven.
"Our best option is to keep the game going, keep the series going, and, at some point, we will be fresher than they are. Huwag ka lang matalo agad," Guiao stressed.
The Elastopainters and the Tropang Giga will go against one another anew on Friday, October 18, at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.
