The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) announced on Tuesday, Oct. 17, that four pension packages were being offered to senior citizen beneficiaries.

“Parati po tayong nagsusumikap para mabigyan ng ginhawa ang ating mga pensioners,” GSIS President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo “Wick” Veloso said in an episode of GSIS Ginhawa For All.

Old-age pension

According to Veloso, GSIS members with at least 15 years of service and at least 60 years old at the time of retirement were qualified for the old-age pension.

The benefits of said pension include yearly pension increase, milestone benefit, burial benefit, pension loan, and emergency loan with the GSIS chief touting their milestone benefit offer.

“Yang milestone benefit, napakaganda ng statistics natin. Pag ikaw ay nakarating ng 90th birthday mo, may twenty-thousand ka. Pag 95 ka, merong kang thirty-thousand. At pag nag 100 years old ka, meron kang fifty-thousand,” he said.

Unlike other government agencies that require old people to present their birth certificates as proof of their age, Veloso said they would not ask for such as they already have their members’ records.

“Automatic ibibigay po sa inyo yan [dahil] may record na po kami ng edad nila,” he added.

Disability pension

Veloso said those who were diagnosed with disabilities that led to complete, irreversible, and permanent incapacity to work, which resulted in loss of income would qualify for the disability pension.

“Ang definition po niyan nawalan po ng paningin sa dalawang mata. Yung dalawang kamay paakyat ng wrist ay naputol. O kaya kayo ay nagkaroon ng problema sa pag-iisip at kayo po ay nabaldado, yan po ay tinatawag na nabibigyan ng full diability [pension],” he said.

But in case of partial disability, the GSIS chief claimed they offer a solution.

“Meron pong provision ang GSIS na pagka ikaw naman ay makita nila na hindi ka na makakapagtrabaho sa linya ng trabaho mo ay pinagbibigyan po na mag-qualify,” he added.

Survivorship Pension

For those who wish to avail the survivorship pension, Veloso said that the spouse of a deceased GSIS member with 15 years of service, either or old-age or disability pensioner, were qualified for this.

“Yun pong old-age pensioner at saka yung disabled yung kanilang napangasawa ang magq-qualify po diyan,” he said.

Veloso also clarified that for the survivorship pensioners, pension would be their only benefit.

Portability Pension

According to the GSIS chief, the portability pension would combine the contributions of less than 10 years in SSS and less than 15 years in GSIS.

“Pagka makapagsilibi ka ng sampung taon, magq-qualify ka na sa retirement. Dapat hindi ka pa mag-qualify sa retirement [pag nagtrabaho ka] sa private sector sa SSS. So ibig sabihin pwede mo ilipat sa GSIS,” he clarified.

“Yung taon mo sa pribadong sector at lumipat ka sa gobyerno—9 years in the private sector at naka 6 years sa government—pasok ka,” he added.
