Three people were killed, while four other, including the suspect, were injured after a hand grenade exploded during a riot between teenagers in Cavite City on Wednesday night.
Initial report from Police Regional Office 4A (PRO-4A) said that two groups of male teenagers engaged in a brawl incident in Barangay 10-A in Cavite City around 11:58 PM.
"They were chasing and throwing stones at each other until they reached the adjacent barangay and were accosted by the responding barangay (village) officials," the PNP-Calabarzon said.
A barangay officer saw one of the teenagers removing the safety pin of a hand grenade he was holding, resulting in the explosion.
"The suspect threatened the responding barangay tanod that he [would] remove the safety pin and attempt to blow it up. During the fight, the suspect removed the safety pin, which resulted in the explosion of the hand grenade," the report added.
Victims Julius Tindoc, Joseph Barrera, and Mark Gio Layug died from the blast while Reymart Patricio remains in critical condition at the Divine Grace Hospital due to injuries.
Suspect Arjay Camatcho, 18, meanwhile, is now in a stable condition. He and an alias "Daniel," a minor, were arrested.
The minor was turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office for proper disposition, the police said.
