Cagayan Gov. Manny Mamba suspects that an illegal drugs syndicate perpetrated the murder of Aparri vice-mayor Rommel Alameda.
Mamba divulged on Wednesday, February 22, that he appointed Alameda to head a task force against illegal drugs in Aparri during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The governor said that the task force managed to neutralize several drug lords.
"In a way, nag-stop pero, alam niyo na, hindi naman lahat natanggal iyon at meron connections pa rin iyan sa authorities. Medyo nag-rest lang sila pero parang bumabalik naman," Mamba said during DZRH's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas.
"Who can provide yung ganoon financing kung hindi yung mga involved sa drugs and, most probably, hindi mag-flourish ang drugs sa isang locality kung walang back-up ng mga pulitiko," he added.
Armed suspects, clad with police uniforms, ambushed the van carrying Alameda and his five aides on Sunday, February 19, in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya.
Authorities managed to find the burnt remains of the get-away vehicle used by the suspects on Monday, February 20, in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, and identify the registered owner.
