Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno said on Tuesday, March 7, that the working hours in government agencies might be adjusted from 7 AM to 4 AM.

Along with this, government employees will be required to work on-site from Mondays to Thursdays and work from home on Fridays.

This was part of the Department of Energy's (DOE) initiative to implement daylight saving time in its agency to conserve energy amid inflation.

"One of the proposals is for the Department of Energy to change their office working time from 7 AM to 4 PM. So, this is daylight saving time, when they will start to work at sunrise, so it will be much earlier. And then, I think they will work from home every Friday," he said during a press conference in Malacañang Palace.

If its effectiveness was proven, the implementation might be adopted by other agencies.

The proposal was already presented to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during a Cabinet meeting.

"We also presented to the President that it’s important to address energy because there are complaints that energy cost in the Philippines is expensive," Diokno continued.

The daylight-saving scheme was first conducted during the 1973 global oil crisis which led to power outages.
