Albay Rep. Fernando "Didi" Cabredo has appealed to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. following the ongoing killings of some incumbent barangay officials in the province, particularly in the town of Libon.
In a statement issued Monday night, Cabredo and the people of Libon urged the President to act on the "senseless and escalating killings" in Libon, after an incident where a barangay captain was shot dead in his residence after filing his Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) in the morning.
"President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., we urgently plead for your intervention in the senseless and escalating killings in Libon. Despite efforts to prevent such crimes, the killings continue, including recent victims such as Barangay Captain Alex Repato, Barangay Councilor Reliosa Mata, Barangay Captain Oscar Maronilla, and Barangay Kagawad Salvador Olivares," the Congressman said.
"We implore you, as the protector of the Filipino people, to prioritize an urgent investigation and restore peace in Libon. Our last resort is to seek your attention, recognizing authority to bring an end to this violence. We urge your prompt action to ensure the safety and security of the people of Libon," he added.
The recent killing was the fourth to be recorded in Libon this year.
The victims of the said killings are Salvador Olivares of Barangay Bariwa, Barangay Captain of San Pascual, Oscar Maronilla, Councilor Rellosa Mata of Brgy. Nagpo and the recent Barangay Captain Alex Repato.
Officials from Albay called on Marcos to pay attention to the killings of some incumbent barangay officials in order to restore peace in the town, especially now that the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) is about to start.
