The Philippines finally broke a five-year jinx against Indonesia in women’s beach volleyball, thanks to a thrilling performance by Alas Pilipinas stars Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons.

The pair led the country to a decisive victory in the preliminary round of the 33rd SEA Games at Sport Arena Jomtien Beach on Friday, December 12.

In a dramatic golden set, Rondina and Pons overcame Indonesia 15-21, 21-16, 18-16, securing the team point that snapped the Philippines’ long-standing losing streak. The hard-fought win marks the country’s first victory over Indonesia in the SEA Games women’s beach volleyball in five years.

The SEA Games women’s beach volleyball tournament features six countries competing in a round-robin format, with each nation fielding two pairs in best-of-three-set matches.

The top two teams will advance to contest the gold medal, while the third and fourth-ranked teams will battle for bronze.

The Philippine duo’s performance has not only boosted the country’s medal prospects but also energized fans after years of waiting for a breakthrough against their regional rivals.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Rondina and Pons to see if they can carry this momentum as they face Singapore on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
