The Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental was placed under a state of calamity amid continuous heavy rains and flooding driven by the shear line and northeast monsoon over the Christmas weekend.
In a press statement by Gingoog City Information Office on Sunday, Dec. 25, it said the Gingoog Mayor Erick Cañosa and the city council issued Special Session Resolution No. 2022-361 declaring a state of calamity in the City.
“The special session was successful through the support of Vice Mayor Tadoy Lugod, Kag. Evelyn G. Cañosa, Kag. Jerome Magan, Kag. Steph Kho, Kag. Jerome Mercado, Kag. Roy Aniscal, Kag. Rodrigande Miole, Kag. Jacob Motoomull, Kag. Bobet de lara, and Kag. Fatima Grace Guanzon,” it added.
Based on Office of Civil Defense (OCD)'s 6 am disaster bulletin released on Monday, Dec. 26, there were two reported fatalities in Misamis Oriental that are still being verified.
At least 9 individuals were reported missing and one injured in Misamis Oriental, Northern Samar, and Leyte.
A total of 18,407 families or 80,142 individuals were affected by the continuous heavy rains and flooding.
About 9,197 families or 44,725 individuals were displaced inside evacuation centers.
At least four fishing boats were damaged, amounting to a cost of Php 280,000.
