Gilas Pilipinas bested Thailand, 87-72, on Wednesday, September 28, in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
Justin Brownlee finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while CJ Perez added 16 points for the second win of the Philippine national men's basketball team in the ongoing tournament.
An 11-point run allowed Gilas to go up, 64-44, in the third quarter.
However, Thailand managed to catch up in the final period, and cut the deficit down to five, 68-63, following back-to-back three-point baskets from Frederick Lish, Nattakarn Muangboon, and Tyler Lamb.
A basket by Japeth Aguilar brought the lead of the Filipinos back to 12, 82-70, with less than two minutes left in the game.
Lamb scored 29 points and Lish chipped in 22 points to pace Thailand which never held the lead after the first quarter.
The Filipinos will resume their campaign in the 2023 Asian Games on Saturday, September 30, against Jordan.
