The camp of suspended Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Gerald Bantag on Wednesday submitted a counter-affidavit answering the murder charges filed against the latter.
Authorities earlier tagged Bantag and BuCor deputy security officer Ricardo Zulueta as the masterminds behind the murder of both late radio broadcaster Percival 'Percy Lapid' Mabasa and alleged middleman Cristito 'Jun' Villamor.
In an interview with the media, Bantag's legal counsel Rocky Thomas Balisong said they argued in the affidavit that there are several inconsistencies in the accusations, one of which is the statement of self-confessed gunman Joel Escorial.
"Sinabi niya na as early as September 5 ay nag-usap na sila ni Villamor na ipapatay si Percy Lapid. And on the same day, it was September 5 when the late Percy Lapid hand his program about doon sa Cinderella Man," Balisong explained.
"And then here comes the statement of Galacia and Labra stating that they came up with an agreement for the killing of Percy Lapid on the second week of September for the killing of Percy Lapid," he added.
Meanwhile, Danilo Pelagio, the lawyer of the Mabasa family, told reporters that they already submitted the two cases for resolution.
Bantag did not show up once again at the preliminary investigation of the Lapid and Villamor slay cases.
