Governor, 13 mayors to be investigated due to alleged vote-buying - Comelec chief

The Commission on Election (Comelec) will investigate the governor and 13 mayors who are allegedly involved in buying votes in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE).

Interviewed during DZRH’s Magandang Umaga Pilipinas on Tuesday, Oct. 31, Comelec chairman George Garcia said the alleged involved governor is from Luzon.

“Meron tayong nakuha video na maraming tao sa mismong bahay niya. So sa atin po, ano ang ginagawa ng mga tao doon? Hindi po siya ang tumatabo,” he said.

“Meron tayong nakuhang info na may pinamudmud na pera doon sa bahay na governor,” Garcia added.

The Comelec Chief said they would file appropriate cases once the investigation is complete.

“Akala kasi nila makakaligtas sila kasi naka-focus kami sa eleksyon kahapon,” he said.

According to Garcia, the poll body has filed an additional 50 disqualification cases against candidates over vote-buying.

Under Comelec Memorandum No. 231111, the proclamation of candidates with the disqualification cases will be suspended "until further orders from the Commission."

“Nakahabol iyon. Later malalaman, kahit hindi disqualification, kahit kasong kriminal. Ipagpapatuloy natin ang pag-file,” he said.

In a chance interview with the media on Monday, Oct. 30, Garcia said the 13 mayors they are monitoring due to alleged vote-buying also hail from Luzon.

“We are investigating one governor and 13 mayors because it [vote-buying] is allegedly happening right in their own homes and other properties,” he said.
