Larry Gadon will remain as the Presidential Adviser on Poverty Alleviation despite being disbarred by the Supreme Court (SC) to practice his profession as a lawyer, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said on Wednesday.
In a statement released by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Bersamin said they are aware of SC's disbarment order but President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. felt that Gadon’s work as the presidential adviser would not be affected by his status as a lawyer.
“This is a matter which he will have to personally attend to,” he added.
Bersamin said the newly appointed presidential adviser will continue his role as “there are urgent matters that need to be done in the President's anti-poverty programs.”
Earlier, Gadon bared that he will be focusing more on projects concerning the nutrition of the youth, starting off with a feeding program called "BBM: Batang Busog, Malusog."
On Monday, the President named Gadon as the Presidential Adviser for poverty alleviation.
Following his appointment, several progressive groups expressed strong opposition due to his lack of credibility as well as compassion for the poor and marginalized.
