The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) revoked the license of basketball player John Amores, effectively barring him from participating in the professional scene due to his involvement in a shooting incident.
The 25-year-old cager was found guilty of conduct unbecoming of a professional basketball player.
"John Anthony W. Amores is hereby found GUILTY of conduct unbecoming of a professional basketball player. The Respondent's license is REVOKED effective immediately. Accordingly, the Respondent is no longer allowed to participate in any professional basketball games sanctioned by the Board," the decision read.
Amores' license was revoked after his involvement in a shooting incident in Laguna on September 25, where he allegedly fired shots at an opponent in the aftermath of a heated basketball game altercation.
Following the incident, attempted homicide complaints were lodged against him and his brother, with both now out on bail.
GAB previously warned about revoking Amores' license over the incident and conducted a thorough investigation.
Furthermore, he was suspended by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) from participating in the 49th season of the Commissioner's Cup.
Amores’ first major controversy took place in 2022, when he became involved in a punching incident in a game between the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers and the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Blazers.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) imposed an indefinite suspension on Amores following the incident.
Amores earned a second chance as a basketball player when the Zamboanga Valientes included him in their roster for the 2022 ASEAN Basketball League, and prior to joining the 2023 PBA draft, he also played for the Muntinlupa Cagers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
