The Department of Health (DOH) reported that it has secured funding for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine this year to provide immunization for nine-year-old girls in the Philippines.
According to DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa, this initiative is part of strengthened efforts to protect women against cervical cancer.
In an exclusive interview on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, Herbosa highlighted the importance of providing free HPV vaccines, given their high cost.
Furthermore, a single dose costs four thousand pesos, and two doses are necessary for a nine-year-old girl.
“Very important ‘to kasi mahal ‘yung HPV Vaccination, P4,000 per dose – 2 doses P8,000 for nine-year-old girl," Herbosa explained.
“Pinondohan na ako ni President [Ferdinand Marcos Jr.} for 2025. For 2025, we can vaccinate all Filipino girls and ang effect niyan mawawala ang cervical cancer," he added.
The agency's initiative is anticipated to result in a decrease in the number of women suffering from cervical cancer in the country.
