Starting today, free and additional rides are being offered, even as schools have shifted to alternative learning modalities to retain learning days amid the three-day transport strike.
Additional, free rides
In a report on Magandang Umaga Pilipinas, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon said extra buses will be provided along EDSA busway, and more trains will be made available for Light Rail Transit lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1, LRT-2), and Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3).
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will also be subsidizing rides in select areas, allowing passengers to ride for free.
According to a separate report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa, LRT-1 and MRT-3 will deploy one added train each and extend operation hours until past 10 PM for the duration of the transport strike, as announced by Dizon today, in a press conference at the MMDA headquarters in Pasig City.

Secretary’s appeal
Rather than holding a demonstration that disrupts the daily commute, Dizon urged the transport groups to bring their concerns directly to the transportation agency, saying its new management is open to dialogue.
