Senator Bong Go could not contain his emotions, minutes after former President Rodrigo Duterte flew to the Hague, Netherlands, on Tuesday evening.
In a report by RH 28 Raymund Dadpaas, the senator described the former president's arrest as “the saddest day in Philippine history.”
He furthered that Duterte did all he could to serve and protect the public. Despite this, Go assured that he would continue to put Filipinos first.
“Uunahin ko ang Pilipino. Uunahin ko ang pagseserbisyo sa kapwa Pilipino,” he said.
Still emotional, Go expressed his sadness but said he would continue to do his duties for the sake of Filipinos. “Nasasaktan ako, nalulungkot po ako; na ang isang tatay natin, si tatay Digong. Na ginawa niya ang kanyang trabaho para sa Pilipino, para sa mga anak natin,” he said.
On early Tuesday, former President Duterte was arrested by authorities upon his arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.
Go was among the former president’s allies who were not permitted to enter the premises, despite waiting outside the location from morning until late at night.
Duterte is now bound for a flight to The Hague, Netherlands, to process the case before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
