The camp of former Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel Arroyo filed a complaint in court seeking to annul the results of the election held by the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) last April 5.
Atty. Rui Rondain, lawyer of Arroyo, confirmed on Tuesday, April 30, that they filed an election protest at the Pasig City Regional Trial Court.
Rondain explained that the recent elections for the NGAP board of trustees violated several bylaws of the association
The lawyer insists that the respondents in the complaint manipulated the elections to ensure the loss of Arroyo and businessman Rodolfo Soriano Jr.
The respondents of the complaint include NGAP president Martin Ignacio Lorenzo, Secretary General Valeriano Floro II, Nominating and Election Committee (NOMELEC) chairperson Avelino Sumagui, as well as poll panel members Marcus Antonius Andaya, Norbert Chico, Jose Geralrd Asuncion, and Raymond Bunquin.
"Ang daming violations. I really don't know kung paano nila i-dipensa," Rondain said during DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.
The camp of Arroyo questioned the decision of the NOMELEC to disqualify some of the proxies submitted in favor of the former lawmaker.
"Kung hindi illegally na-exclude yung mga proxy namin, panalo sana sila," Rondain said.
The complainants also challenge the decision to hold the elections and the annual stockholders meeting in the Alabang Country Club.
They stress that the bylaws of NGAP require the association to hold all annual meetings in Pasig City, the location of the headquarters of the association.
