Jose Emmanuel "Noli" M. Eala was named as the new chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Malacanang announced on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
The Office of the Secretary in a Facebook post confirmed the appointment and shared a copy of the appointment document as signed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Eala then expressed his gratitude for the position in a Twitter post.
“Blessed. Honored. Grateful. Excited. Time to serve. Let's get to work,” he wrote.
Eala will be joining bowling legend and now commissioner Olivia "Bong" Coo on the new PSC board.
He previously served as a broadcast commentator for PBA games in the 1990s and became a new anchor in evening newscasts from 2002 to 2003.
Ela was then appointed as the sixth commissioner of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) from 2003 to 2007.
