Two individuals were injured after a fishing vessel caught fire off the coast of Cuyo in the Palawan province on Monday, May 15.

In a statement, Coast Guard Station Eastern Palawan (CGSEP) said two crew members of FV Victor 89 suffered from first-degree burns.

No other casualties or accidents among the rescuers and crew were reported, it noted.

According to Coast Guard Eastern Palawan, it put out the fire with the help of the fishermen from Frabelle Fishing Corporation and the Cuyo Municipal Police Station at about 9:40 am.

But after a fire out was declared, it said that the fishing vessel then capsized off the waters of Cuyo.

Some members of CGSEP were dispersed to prevent the oil spill from the sunken fishing vessel, which was said to be made from fiber glass, throughout the area.

Investigations are currently underway to find out the fire's origin.
