Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has declared that fishes caught in the province is now safe for eating, lifting the temporary ban imposed due to the oil spill from Bataan that reached nearvy waters of Cavite.

Remulla stated that Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. reported that fish from Cavite are now safe for human consumption following several months of ban.

"Ayon kay Sec Kiko ng Department of Agriculture ay maayos na po ang estado at ligtas kainin ang isdang huling Cavite pagkatapos ng halos isang buwang kalbaryo ng mga mangingisda mula sa affected areas sa ating lalawigan,” Remulla said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Remulla clarified that shellfish, such as clams and mussels, are still not considered safe to eat, as their safety is still being evaluated.

Additionally, he reported that the damage from the oil spill that affected the waters of Cavite last month has exceeded one billion pesos, with eight areas placed under a state of calamity.

Remulla appealed to the owner of MT Terra Nova to show some concern for the residents affected by their negligence.

"Paging MV Terra Nova at sa mga may-ari nito: kaunting malasakit naman para sa mga kababayan kong naghihirap ng dahil sa kapabayaan ninyo," said Remulla.

Previously, the provincial government of Cavite imposed a fishing ban in the affected areas.
