The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) announced that fish in all areas in Manila Bay and the five remaining areas in Cavite are now safe for human consumption.
Based on the department’s latest bulletin, all collected samples of fish, crustaceans, cephalopods, and shellfish on August 27 are now safe to eat. Additionally, areas in Manila Bay that are potentially affected by the oil spill, have also passed the evaluation, and are now safe for human consumption.
In the previous bulletin, DA-BFAR shared that fish from the five remaining areas in Cavite namely; Bacoor City, Cavite City, Noveleta, Rosario, and Tanza, were unsafe for human consumption. The results showed that it did not pass the second sensory evaluation conducted by the department.
Meanwhile, fish and other seafood products from Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Batangas, and Metro Manila have already been declared safe to eat through the Bataan Oil Spill Bulletin in early August.
Municipalities of Naic, Ternate, Kawit, and Maragondon in Cavite province were also deemed safe for human consumption.
All mentioned areas went through analyses and monitoring conducted by the DA-BFAR.
The oil spill was a result of the motor tankers that capsized in the vicinity waters of Bataan in mid-July.
