Five coastal municipalities in Cavite did not pass the third sensory evaluation for the three consecutive batches of fish and other fishery species collected from August 16 to 21, 2024, said the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR).

According to the Bataan Oil Spill Bulletin No. 5 on Thursday, fish from five areas in Cavite namely, Bacoor City, Cavite City, Noveleta, Rosario, and Tanza are still unsafe for human consumption. Based on the results of the latest sensory analyses, the mentioned areas have only passed two evaluations.

On the other hand, four municipalities in the province, namely, Naic, Ternate, Kawit, and Maragondon, have passed the sensory evaluation for three consecutive batches of fish and other fishery species. Samples for these areas were collected from the period of August 7 to 21, 2024.

“Based on the stated results, the public is therefore informed that fish from Naic, Ternate, Kawit, and Maragondon in the province of Cavite are now safe for human consumption,” BFAR said in a statement.

“Conversely, fish from Bacoor City, Cavite City, Noveleta, Rosario, and Tanza, are still NOT safe for human consumption,” it added.

Consequently, according to the Bataan Oil Spill Bulletin No. 4 on August 13, fish and other seafood products in Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Batangas, and Metro Manila, have been declared safe for human consumption.

The latest analyses conducted by the DA-BFAR, including the PAH testing, showed that fish from these areas remain safe to eat.
