First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos officially joined the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) Executive Squadron on board BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) in Port Area, Manila, on Tuesday, July 16.
The First Lady was awarded the honorary rank of Auxiliary Vice Admiral presided by Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista and PCG Commandant, Coast Guard Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan.
According to PCG Spokesman Rear Admiral Armand Balilo, this is the first time that a First Lady has become a member of the PCG Auxiliary.
After the ceremony, the First Lady took a short tour of the BRP Gabriela Silang at Pier 13 led by Capt. Lawrence Roque.
First Lady Liza said she participated in the PCG to inspire the members of the organization as they fulfill their duty to the country.
