The first batch of 100 Filipino caregivers under the Employment Permit System (EPS) Pilot Project flew to South Korea on Monday, after the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) send-off ceremony.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Sang-Hwa extended their good wishes to the deployed employees under the pilot project.
Filipino caregivers are directly employed by certified agencies accredited by the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor, along with the guarantee of equal treatment and benefits the Korean workers enjoy.
Earlier in May, the DMW issued an advisory regarding the ties between the Philippines and the Republic of South Korea, citing the implementation of the EPS pilot project.
Under the program, 100 Filipinos would be chosen to assist eligible Korean households with young children, pregnant women, single parents, or working couples. They will carry out daily activities like cleaning, laundry, and other necessary duties for their function as caregivers.
The accepted applicants underwent comprehensive medical, psychological, language, and physical exams before deployment.
They also received pre-departure training and will be attending post-arrival training sessions.
The project aims to expand both countries’ bilateral labor ties through the caregiver deployment plan.
