Fireworks-related injury cases surpasses 300 mark - DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) logged 16 new cases of fireworks-related injuries.

As of Friday, January 6, the total number of fireworks-related injury cases rose to 302 from the 291 cases recorded by the DOH up until Thursday, January 5.

"These were 62% higher compare to 2021 (189 cases) but 3% lower compared to the five-year average (317 cases) during the same period," the DOH said in its report.

DOH reported that 65 patients suffered injuries due to kwitis, 35 cases due to bogas, 23 cases due to 5-star, and 17 cases due to fountains.

DOH also mentioned that the majority of the fireworks-related injuries, 167, happened on the street while 130 cases, around 42 percent of the total number of cases, occurred at home.

The department added 51 incidents, around 17 percent of the total number of cases, that happened while under the influence of alcohol.
