The homeowner stated that the fire spread rapidly and may have been caused by a cigarette butt or a katol outside their house. He and his neighbors reportedly complained about the delayed response of the firefighters, who did not declare the first alarm until after 5 a.m.
“Napaso yata ‘yung anak ko, ginising kami. Sabi niya ‘papa sunog, kuha ng tubig.’ Pagbuhos namin, parang lumakas. Parang galing sa ilalim ‘yung sunog,” the homeowner of the house where the fire started stated.
Although no fatalities were reported in the incident, a pet owner found one of his two American Bullies dead after it was unable to escape from its cage when the fire broke out.
Meanwhile, another dog that survived sustained burns on its face and legs, while another dog remains missing as of this writing.
The local government continues to register the victims of the fire, asking for their IDs to distribute initial aid, while some individuals have already been taken to nearby evacuation centers.
