A family of five perished in a fire in Pangasinan early Monday morning due to overcharged electric bike, according to an investigation by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Pozorrubio.

In an interview on Tuesday, Fire Officer 3 Christian Verosil stated that the e-bike was on the victim's ground floor and had been left plugged in overnight.

He claimed that the fire started on the overcharged bike and spread through their house's wiring until it reached the attic, where the victims were sleeping.

He went on to say that because the attic was made of wood, the fire spread quickly, and there were no other openings beside a small window and the attic door.

Meanwhile, Verosil reported that two nearby houses were also damaged, but there were no injuries or fatalities.

He estimated the damage to be PHP9 million.

Verosil advised the general public to always unplug appliances when they are not in use.
