After more than a month of being detained for alleged arson for burning a modern jeepney in Quezon, filmmaker Jade Castro and his three companions were finally released on Monday after a Quezon court dismissed their case.
This has been confirmed by Atty. Chel Diokno, one of Castro’s lawyers. He described the court decision as “answered prayer,” expressing his joy for their freedom.

Castro, along with Noel Mariano, Dominic Ramos, and Ernesto Orcine, were freed from the Bureau of Jail Management Penology (BJMP) jail facility after the court granted their motion to quash the charges.
It was last February 1 when Castro, Mariano, Ramos, and Orcine were nabbed by the authorities without any warrant of arrest for the accusation of arson of a modern jeepney in Catanauan.
However, the allegations were only based on the witnesses’ claims, saying that the suspects were wearing bonnets before the burning incident, in which Castro proved that they were not in the area.
He stressed that they were in Mulanay town for a vacation, which is around 40 minutes from Catanauan.
Later on, the police admitted that no physical evidence was linked to Castro and his companions involvement in the crime.
