

The Philippine women’s national football team, affectionately known as the Filipinas, have officially secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026, marking a historic milestone for women’s football in the country.
The Filipinas’ progression was confirmed on Tuesday after Japan’s 4-0 victory over Vietnam in their final Group C match in Perth. This result ensured that the Philippines finished as the second-best third-placed team in the group stage, advancing to the knockout rounds.
The team concluded Group A with one win and two losses, posting a minus-2 goal difference. Uzbekistan, the third-placed team in Group B, also advanced with a minus-2 goal difference, while Vietnam’s heavy defeat dropped them to minus-4, ending their campaign.
The Filipinas’ standout moment in the group stage came on Sunday, March 8, when they claimed a 2-0 victory over IR Iran, a crucial win that kept their hopes alive for the knockout stage.
In the quarterfinals, the Philippines will face powerhouse Japan on March 15 in Sydney, setting the stage for a challenging yet historic clash.
By reaching the Top 8, the Filipinas have earned their spot in the Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament for 2028, bringing them one step closer to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2026.
