The Philippine Women’s National Football Team, popularly known as the Filipinas, booked their ticket to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 with a 2-0 triumph over Uzbekistan in Thursday’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup play-in match.
Angie Beard opened the scoring in the 47th minute, converting a precise assist from Jael Guy. Later in the second half, Jackie Sawicki doubled the lead, cementing the victory and ensuring the Philippines’ return to football’s premier global stage.
This marks the Filipinas’ second consecutive World Cup appearance following their historic debut in 2023, where they captured the hearts of fans worldwide with their spirited performances.
The next edition of the tournament will be held in Brazil in 2027.
Prior to the breakthrough, a quarterfinal matchup against Asian powerhouse Japan ended in defeat, but the team’s World Cup hopes remained alive through the play-off against Uzbekistan. The 2-0 win in that decisive match confirmed the Filipinas’ place among the world’s elite once again.
