The Philippine women’s futsal team, the Filipina5, scored a historic 1–0 victory over world No. 38 Myanmar in their opening match of the 2026 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship at Terminal 21 Korat.
Captain Inday Tolentin delivered the decisive goal in the 14th minute, breaking through a tight defense to fire past Myanmar goalkeeper Chaw Sandi Aung.
The win marks the first time the 69th-ranked Philippines has beaten Myanmar in the tournament, after a 2–2 draw in the 2024 edition in Pasig City.
The Filipina5 combined solid defense and disciplined pressing throughout the match. Goalkeeper Samantha Hughes made early crucial saves, while defenders Lyka Cuenco and newcomer Sarahgen Tulabing held off Myanmar’s late attacks.
Midfielders Bhebhe Lemoran and Tolentin forced turnovers, highlighting the team’s growing tactical maturity.
Following this landmark win, the Filipina5 will face defending champion Vietnam today, February 25, at the Terminal 21 Korat, seeking to avenge their narrow 0–1 loss in last December’s SEA Games semifinals.
