Family of Jemboy Baltazar seeks help after Navotas court's decision
by Mary Antalan28 February 2024

The family of slain mistaken identity victim Jemboy Baltazar is seeking help after a Navotas Regional Trial Court (RTC) imposed lighter penalties on the six involved policemen.

Interviewed during Dos Por Dos on Wednesday, Liza Tolentino, grandmother of Jemboy, said they do not agree with the court's ruling and have requested that her grandson's case be reopened.

Tolentino said they are also seeking protection from threats against their lives.

Kaya inuwi ko ulit sa Navotas," she said.

The grandmother said their family has no power to fight the case due to their financial incapacity.

Rodaliza Baltazar, the mother of Jemboy, likewise expressed her disappointment with the Navotas RTC Branch 286's judgment on Tuesday.

Rodaliza remarked that the imposed penalties were not enough to justify the death of her son.

Ilang taon lang nilang paghihirapan parang wala silang ginawa," she emotionally said.

The court found Staff Sergeant Gerry Sabate Maliban guilty of homicide. Four other police were found guilty of illegal discharge of firearms, while one was acquitted as it was said that he had no actual participation in the crime.
