At least eight eTravel websites have been identified as fake by the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC).
According to CICC, the following fake eTravel websites would charge their customers up to PHP 5,00 for a travel pass that is supposed to be free:
- https://www.onlinetravel-application.com
- https://www.ph-discovers.com
The CICC said it is now investigating if the perpetrators behind these fake eTravel websites are Filipinos or foreigners.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has repeatedly reminded Filipinos that eTravel is free of charge, urging the public to report any fraudulent websites claiming to operate as eTravel sites.
Anyone who will be caught may face charges for violation of the Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The legitimate eTravel website of the government is etravel.gov.ph.
eTravel is an online portal of the Philippine national government for the implementation of an electronic passenger registration and Health Declaration Checklist.
