Former President Rodrigo Duterte reiterated that the implementation of the controversial "War on Drugs" was necessary, stating he did what he believed was needed.
"I did what I had to do because kailangan kong gawin," Duterte said during an ambush interview with the media as he arrived at the Senate on Monday.
"Why? To protect the people and my country," he added.

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee is conducting a motu proprio inquiry, aimed at aiding legislation, regarding the extrajudicial killings that took place during the Duterte administration's campaign against illegal drugs.
