Former President and Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo lauded Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David’s recent appointment as one of the cardinals of the Catholic Church.
In her statement, Arroyo congratulated the President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). Pope Francis announced David’s appointment, along with 20 others, after the Angelus at noon.
David’s recent achievement is a testament to his ‘unwavering dedication to the good of our people,’ Arroyo wrote. Moreover, the now Pampanga Representative mentioned the years David spent as a priest who was involved with and served the community.
“His Eminence’s appointment not only honors his personal journey but also serves as an inspiration to the countless faithful in our community and to the many members of the clergy who admire him,” Arroyo said.
“His outstanding service, including fostering not only spiritual but also civic responsibility among the faithful, has left an indelible mark in the Church militant of our country,” she added.
David’s new role as Cardinal comes with immense responsibilities, but Arroyo said that she is confident that he will continue to guide and uplift the faithful with ‘courage and grace.’
“May he be strengthened in his ministry, and may his leadership foster hope and renewal within the Church and beyond,” the Pampanga Representative said.

Arroyo said that the Cardinal’s “cabalens” will look forward to witnessing the positive impact of his leadership and prestige in the coming years.
On Monday, David shared how he mistook his new appointment as cardinal, as a joke.
David is set to become the 10th Filipino cardinal. He will be officially conferred as a cardinal on December 8.
