Former Philippine National Police Chief (PNP) and Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Camilo Cascolan has succumbed to death due to pneumonia. He was 59 years old.

Cascolan’s son, Jiro confirmed the unfortunate news in an official Facebook post on Saturday, Nov. 25.

“It is with deep sadness and heavy heart that I, on behalf of our family, announce the passing of my beloved father, Ret. Gen. Camilo Pancratius Pascua Cascolan, former Chief of the Philippine National Police and Undersecretary of the Department of Health. He succumbed to Pneumonia due to Stage 4 Lung Cancer and peacefully left this world this afternoon, November 24, 2023, at 5:28 pm surrounded by his loving family,” he said.

“My dad dedicated his life to serving and protecting our country as a man of service for 42 years. We will forever remember his unwavering dedication to his duty, his selflessness, and his love for his family,” Jiro added.

In a Facebook post, the PNP mourned the death of Cascolan, who they regarded as a “stalwart leader whose impact reverberated throughout” the institution.

It remarked that the late PNP Chief set the standards high for all PNP members as he demonstrated “dedication to upholding the principles of service, integrity, and professionalism” during his time.

“As we bid farewell to this distinguished leader, we must not only mourn his passing but also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind. Let us honor PGen Cascolan by continuing to uphold the values he championed, by striving for excellence in our service to the nation, and by fostering the camaraderie and welfare that makes the PNP a strong and cohesive force,” it said.

It can be recalled that in September last year, President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. appointed Cascolan as the new DOH Undersecretary, which later sparked public controversy.

Prior to his appointment, he served as the PNP Chief during the administration of former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte. But he tendered his resignation after reaching retirement age of 56 on Nov. 10, 2020.
