Former Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Felipe Medalla emerged as the highest earner among government officials in 2022, according to the Commission on Audit's (COA) “2022 Report on Salaries and Allowances” or ROSA.
This marks a significant shift from the previous years when Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno held the title.
COA disclosed its annual report on salaries, allowances, and emoluments on its official website last August 2.
According to the report, Medalla and Diokno topped the list, with Medalla's total earnings reaching P34.1 million and Diokno's reaching P28.8 million.
Medalla's net pay experienced a remarkable 56.5% increase, amounting to P12.342 million, compared to his previous net pay of P21.831 million in 2021 when he ranked third.
His tenure as BSP Governor concluded on July 2. Eli Remolona succeeded the post and will now serve a six-year term.
In addition to Medalla and Diokno, other notable figures included in the top 10 earners are as follows:
- BSP official Anita Linda Aquino with a net pay of P26.362 million
- BSP official Victor Bruce Tolentino with a net pay of P25.679 million
- BSP official Chuchi Fonacier with a net pay of P25.157 million
- Monetary Board members Peter Favila with P24.389 million
- Antonio Abacan Jr. with P24.026 million
- Senior Assistant governor and General Counsel Elmore Capule with P22.474 million
- BSP deputy governor Francisco Dakila Jr. with P22.387 million
- Senior Assistant Governor Edna Villa with P20.902 million
COA is tasked with overseeing and preparing a report on the salaries and allowances of high-ranking government officials to ensure transparency and accountability in the utilization of public funds.
The report, known as ROSA, is submitted to the offices of the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives as part of the monitoring process.
