Former Bureau of Customs (BOC) Intelligence Officer Jimmy Guban, who was convicted of drug importation, revealed that Paolo Duterte, Atty. Mans Carpio, and several others were behind the shabu shipment seized in 2018.
Guban was Initially convicted for his alleged involvement in the entry of two magnetic lifters that contained P6.8 billion worth of shabu at the Manila International Container Port.
“Masama po palang manghuli ng ilegal na droga sa loob ng Bureau of Customs. Sumunod lang po ako sa utos ng pamunuan,” Guban said during the first joint public hearing of the committees on dangerous drugs, public order and safety, human rights, and public accounts held in Bacolor, Pampanga yesterday, August 16.
Guban further stated that during his testimony before at the Blue Ribbon Committee on October 30, 2018, he named dismissed Police Col. Eduardo Acierto as the consignee of the shipment, despite intelligence reports suggesting that Paolo Duterte, Mans Carpio, and Michael Yang were the actual owners.
He claims that he did not speak the truth because he received a death threat and was warned that his child could be kidnapped if he mentioned the said personalities.
“Jimmy ‘pag binanggit mo ang pangalan na ‘to, mamamatay ka,” Guban said.
“Lalo na kung makarating ka sa Pasay City Jail. Hindi tatagal ang buhay mo,” he added.
He added that the threat intensified when his child was mentioned, with the individual asserting knowledge of the child’s whereabouts and indicating that kidnapping would be simple.
The ex-BOC agent then confidently named Davao City First District Representative Paolo Duterte, son of former President Rodrigo Duterte, and Atty. Mans Carpio, husband of Vice President Sara Duterte, and Michael Yang as the key personalities involved in the shipment.
“Iyong katotohanan po ay inilabas ko ngayon dahil tinatakot nila ako during that time (pagdinig ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee). Maraming namamatay noon. Ngayon ang tamang panahon,” said Guban.
Guban hopes that through the quad-comm hearings, his case will be given justice.
Meanwhile, due to the statements provided by Guban, the committee will invite Paolo Duterte, Mans Carpio, and other individuals to the next quad-comm hearing.
