Interior Secretary Benjamin 'Benhur' Abalos Jr. on Tuesday named a former associate justice as the fifth member of the advisory group tasked to review the courtesy resignations submitted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) top officials.
In an interview with the media, Abalos said retired associate Justice Melchor Quirino Cabarroguis Sadang would complete the five-man group.
"Kami ay nagpapasalamat kay Justice Melchor Quirino Sadang sa pagtanggap niya sa fifth member nitong advisory group," he said.
According to Abalos, Sadang previously served as a former associate justice of the Court of Appeals from 2011 to 2017.
He was also a former presiding judge of a Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Cavite City and a law professor at the University of the East (UE).
Earlier, the Interior Secretary announced the four members namely, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, PNP Chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr., former Defense chief Gibo Teodoro, and retired General and now Office of the Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs (OPAMA) Undersecretary for Police Affairs Isagani Nerez.
Abalos said the group would convene by Monday, February 13 to discuss the guidelines for their review on the PNP resignations.
